Time to look back and learn

Just finished our post project review with Brian Richardson of Selby District Council. The overall scores were very good, but we always make sure that we ask how we could have done things better. The survey results are posted on the Testimonials & Feedback page. If you have any comments about our work over the last 3 years call Andrew McCormick on 01482 823999. We've enjoyed our time working in Selby and hope to be back in the area again soon.

£11.8m programme progressing well

AN £11.8 MILLION drive to improve the quality of council houses in Selby is progressing well but running over budget, district officials have said. Selby District Council is nearing the end of a three-year programme to ensure all its houses meet the Government’s Decent Homes standard by the end of 2010.

Of the council’s 3,157 homes, 2,658 are now classed as decent, following widespread work across the district, including on kitchens, bathrooms, chimneys, windows and boilers.

The work is on course for an £81,000 overspend, but council officials hope that will be offset by the fact that some householders – primarily older residents who do not want the upheaval – have refused the improvements.

Decent Homes works to 152 homes in Selby at Abbots Road, Darcy Road, Eden Ave, Petre Ave, Parkin Ave, Staynor Ave, and Shireburn Grove including kitchens, bathrooms & doors, with roofing works, facias and gutters and central heating to selected properties

Selby PH4 confirmed

Just returned from Selby, where we were holding an open day to allow tenants to select their kitchen styles and find out about the works that will be taking place over the next few months. We'll be working on around 130 properties. It was good to hear such great feedback from tenants and the council on the works we have completed. Of around 60 satisfaction surveys returned so far, we've got a 100% record, will all tenants saying they were either "satisfied" or "very satisfied" with our performance.

A good day out!

H&P staff and representatives from Selby District Council organised a tenants choice event at Drax Sports and Social Club, near Goole. The event gave the opportunity for residents to enjoy a good buffet lunch, find out more about the works to be carried out on their homes, and decide on choices of tiles, flooring, working tops and ironmongery. Hobson & Porter's Minor Works Director Dave Blades and Site Manager Roger Ward were joined by our resident liaison and safety staff at the full day event. To make sure that as many residents could attend at a convenient time H&P laid on a full day shuttle service. By getting all the choices agreed as early as possible this helps H&P to carry out the works more efficiently, which saves time and money and reduces disruption for residents.

Phase 2 update 12.09.08

Following a successful pilot scheme in the Whitley, Balne and Womersley areas, Hobson & Porter is commencing a second phase of work on the Decent Homes Programme for Selby District Council.
This will involve works to around 70 properties in Beal, Birkin, Kellington and Fairburn. Work on the second phase is expected to be completed in the spring of 2009.
Among the residents having improvements carried out were Pat and Alan. "All the people that have have been in our home from Hobson & Porter and Selby Council were great, the lads that fitted the door were brilliant and we are highly delighted"
Although they had only had new door fitted, Pat and Alan had a real cause for celebration...they were celebrating their Ruby wedding anniversary!
